Mac Miller’s Long Awaited Collaboration Album “MacLib” Is Dropping Soon
During a new interview with Sway, Madlib announced that he was finishing up a new Mac Miller album. When asked by Sway if this was the same album mentioned years back, Madlib confirmed that to be true with approval from the estate of Mac Miller.
“Maclib” was an EP’s worth of music dating back to 2015 when Mac Miller had started recording songs over Madlib’s beats. The two had discussed ideas over lunch at Eagle Rock’s Cacao Mexicatessen. Madlib played one of Mac’s tracks in 2016 at a European festival with Mac Miller’s response being “Let’s do an EP.”
The creation process continued throughout 2017 with Mac Miller texting Egon “I feel like we can create something special.” After seeing a video of Madlib playing one of the songs at another festival set, Mac Miller texted Egon “My homie sent me a video of one of the joins me and Madlib did that he was spinning. Made me happy.”
In early 2019, half a year removed from the passing of Mac Miller, producer Thelonious Martin said in an interview with DJBooth that he was told by Madlib that the two recorded a full project together.
“Madlib just randomly plays a Mac Miller joint [during Pitchfork Music Festival]. And I turn to him, I’m like ‘There’s more of these, right?’ He says, ‘Oh, yeah, there’s a whole album. Maclib.’”
As far as the title of the album. It was sent over in the metadata of one of the files Mac sent over. “MacLib - Number 4”
